If you saw Sunday’s final round of the 2014 Masters Championship, you were rewarded with the magnificence of Bubba Watson. Not only was he hitting the golf ball over 300 yards at will, his irons were laser-like at every pin. His amazing play led to him capturing his second green jacket at Augusta National.
However, what you did not see was also a key factor to his success. Bubba Watson flipped the switch in his attitude. He now practices an “attitude of gratitude”.
After winning his first Masters Championship in 2012, his game began to tumble downward. The pressure was immense to be a superstar and play great for every tournament. As a consequence of this unrealistic expectation, his attitude took a slide with a sour taste.
But Bubba turned it around when he began to give thanks for all he has. Bubba has mentioned how he focuses on how lucky he is to be playing golf for a living. He is also highly appreciative of his lovely wife, Angie and new son, Caleb.
An attitude of gratitude helps Bubba Watson better handle the stress of competitive golf on the PGA Tour. When Bubba Watson blew the lead to win the Waste Management tournament in Phoenix earlier this year, he said his new found attitude allowed him to rebound in a moment and this contributed to his win two weeks later at the Nissan Open in Los Angeles.
Your world is no different from the PGA Tour. Business is high stress and ultra-competitive. It is so easy to lose the juice of life when you are not reaching your goals and objectives, and getting what you want out of life.
Be like Bubba. Begin an attitude of gratitude. Every morning wake up and be appreciative of what you have, instead of what you don’t. Begin your morning by proclaiming 3 aspects of your life that you are thankful for. With this early morning happy hour, you are bound to have a much better day at work or anywhere you may play.
