Peyton Manning is a great leader for many reasons. Sure he has the talent and skills. But Peyton has much more. He is credible. Peyton has won an enormous amount of games and had many 4th quarter comebacks, so his teammates know he will get it done again in a tight situation. Peyton is also trustworthy: He walks the walk (he has no transgressions-ala Tiger Woods).
Leaders who want to have true followers, whether in sport or business need to follow the Peyton Manning model of leadership:
1) Have the competence
2) Be credible with a successful history
3) Be trustworthy and walk your talk.
Of course, this is a lot easier said then done!
